Shifting and Displaced
14 March – 10 May 2025
Irène Laub · Brussels, Belgium
Shifting and Displaced presents a new body of work by Portuguese artist José Pedro Croft centered on the circle as a recurring geometric form. The exhibition brings together nine works on paper—combining etching, gouache, varnish, and Indian ink—with two iron sculptures. Croft fragments, cuts, displaces, and reconstructs circular forms to explore instability, memory, balance, and transformation. Rather than treating geometry as fixed or purely mathematical, he approaches it as something physical and embodied, shaped by material, gesture, and the viewer’s movement. The works continually shift between construction and deconstruction, questioning ideas of completeness, permanence, and spatial stability.
