David Hockney

David Hockney (1937–2026) was a British artist whose exploration of painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and digital technology made him one of the most influential artists of his generation. Emerging in Britain during the 1960s, he became widely known for his luminous paintings of Los Angeles swimming pools, portraits, domestic interiors, and landscapes. Throughout his career, Hockney continually investigated how we see and represent space, experimenting with multiple viewpoints, photographic collages, fax drawings, video, and later iPhone and iPad drawings. Colour, observation, perspective, and the experience of looking remained central to his work. His later landscapes of Yorkshire and Normandy extended these investigations into large-scale depictions of seasonal change and the natural world.
