Dimitri Tsykalov

Dimitri Tsykalov (b. 1963, Moscow) is a Russian artist based in Paris whose practice explores violence, mortality, consumption, conflict, and the transformation of materials. Sculpture lies at the centre of his work, accompanied by drawing, painting, photography, and installation. Across different periods, Tsykalov has built distinct bodies of work using wood, fruit and vegetables, raw meat, and discarded ammunition boxes. His well-known Skulls transform perishable food into images of mortality, while his Meat series reconstructs weapons from flesh, linking the body to violence and aggression. In more recent works, ammunition crates become sculptures and intricate compositions that examine war, cultural memory, and destruction. Material, craftsmanship, irony, and physical transformation remain central to his artistic language.
