South Korean · b. 1985
GaHee Park (b. 1985, Seoul) is a South Korean artist based in Montreal whose paintings and drawings explore desire, intimacy, sexuality, voyeurism, and the boundaries between private and public life. Her theatrical interiors are populated by fragmented bodies, animals, plants, food, mirrors, and everyday objects, creating scenes that shift between sensuality, humour, and psychological unease. Drawing on personal memories, art history, still-life traditions, and surrealist imagery, Park frequently distorts perspective and anatomy to construct deliberately unstable pictorial worlds. Her experience of growing up in a conservative environment in Seoul has strongly informed her examination of social conventions, gender, freedom, and the representation of the female body.
