Jean-François Fourtou

Jean-François Fourtou (b. 1964, Paris) is a French artist whose sculptures and immersive installations explore childhood, memory, imagination, scale, and the experience of domestic space. He first became known in the 1990s for his animal sculptures and later developed large architectural installations including the Giant’s House and the Upside-Down House. These works transform familiar environments through radical changes in scale and orientation, allowing visitors to physically experience the instability of memory and childhood perception. Since the late 2010s, Fourtou has expanded this universe through the Nanitos, Minitos, Maxitos, and Hybridus figures, fantastical beings that combine human, animal, and vegetal forms. His practice moves between sculpture, architecture, installation, photography, and public art.
